A Summer Farewell

img of A Summer Farewell

All anyone’s talking about is the season
Summer’s soon to say goodbye
Trees turn orange, blooms run dry
Early sunsets fade from view
Fall is looming, peeking through
I’ll use this time to reminisce
On summer days I’ll dearly miss

I remember the way the trees looked
Green, brown, and growing tall
Their canopy stood over all
Imposing maples stretched across
Fields with roots adorned by moss

I remember the way the flowers looked
Marigolds with edges bright
Lilies helping songs to write
Forget-me-nots were everywhere
Greenhouse tulips raised with care

I remember the way the sunsets looked
Burning light would ever last
Bleeding skies that never passed
Orange faded baby blue
Your little porch, a perfect view

I remember the way the days looked
Summer solstice, smoking weed
Projectors, people, sowing seeds
See you soon, silver moon
Singing Sunday morning tunes
Trampolines, green canopies
Marigolds and memories
Weekend mornings, waking late
Café drives, carrot cake
Little tubes, little trips
Cute little situations, dips
Open mics, playing cards
Throwing darts in Brian’s yard
Trulys warm and Trulys cold
Throwing back and feeling old
Snapping limbs, dancing late
Mosquito bites, trusting fate

Already green is turning gold
Morning air is growing cold
Orange leaves, new things to miss
Goldenrod, summer’s goodbye kiss
